BenQ is expanding its range of Android TV-enabled 4K projectors with its new W1800i

BenQ is expanding its range of Android TV-enabled 4K projectors with its new W1800i.

Available next month priced 1199 EUR approx, the W1800i deploys DLP 4K optics and supports HDR10 and HLG playback (plus 3D at 1080p), while Google's Android TV platform enables voice-control and access to apps via the Google Play store.

Quick access to Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ is integrated, but Netflix playback requires either casting wirelessly from a Chromecast device or via a wired source.

The projector claims a brightness output of 2,000 Lumens and a 10,000:1 contrast ratio (it misses out on the Dynamic Iris of pricier BenQ models). Setup tools include a 1.3x optical zoom, vertical keystone correction and picture rotation. The lens throw ratio is 1.127-1.46:1.

Although the W1800i supports 4K HDR playback via dual HDMI 2.0b inputs, it's not a wide colour model, instead guaranteeing 100 per cent reproduction of the REC.709 colour space. BenQ says every model is factory-calibrated to this standard, and ships with a calibration report.

New to the BenQ projector armoury is the W1800i's support for Filmmaker Mode, the image quality initiative established by the UHD Alliance.

Other connections are a powered USB-A port for connecting to a streaming stick, and a 3.5mm audio out. The compact projector (312(w) x 110(h) x 246(d)mm) also has its own onboard 5W sound system.
